How to use Social Media Strategically

1 Comment | This entry was posted on Nov 19 2008

There was an interesting article in Marketingvox regarding social media strategy. I would encourage you to read the article: HERE

Some highlights:
86 million Americans use the social Web
Including 75% of college students
And 60% of wealthy adults
75% of Fortune 1000 companies will launch a social media campaign this year
50% of those campaigns are expected to fail

Allow me to be Obvious Man for a moment: It’s time to have a well thought out social media plan for your organization.

Did You Know?

This is a great video that I saw during a presentation by Vinay Bhagat of Convio. If this does not convince you that our world is changing and has already changed I do not know what will. The question is how will we adjust our communication and fundraising strategies to keep up.

Long Tail of President Obama’s Fundraising

In light of the fact that we have a newly elected President, it might be a good idea to review two interesting articles (FASTCOMPANY and TIMESONLINE) highlighting the incredibly effecive strategy the Obama campaign used in leveraging lots of small gifts from millions of people to raise a record amount in this years election.

A few things to consider:

-You are not the Obama campaign but you do have a worthy cause.

-You have a loyal audience that can be leveraged to expand your fundraising horizons

-94% of April’s $31 million raised came from sums of $200 or less. Many small donors became the model

-$45 million of the $55 million total from february came over the internet without the candidate himself hosting a single fundraiser.

How can we ignore this for our fundraising future?

Enjoy: FASTCOMPANY and TIMESONLINE
